‘The Americans’ on Cover to Cover

Back in March I published a blog post about ‘The Americans’, the fourth story in my collection Broken Rules and Other Stories. That blog post was featured on episode 472 of Cover to Cover on Vision Australia Radio on 12 May, along with a new reading of the story itself.

Listen to the podcast here, or access a sound file of the recording here. ‘My’ section starts 15 minutes and 30 seconds in – though of course I’m not suggesting you should miss out on hearing the first reading, a short story by Jeffrey Archer taken from his 1988 collection A Twist in the Tale.

The first-person narrator in ‘The Americans’ may or may not be similar to me. It’s not for me to say. I think elements of the narrator’s character are similar to mine. I can certainly relate to many of the experiences he describes.

from “The story behind ‘The Americans’”

‘The Americans’ was first broadcast on Cover to Cover in October 2020, the month after the release of Broken Rules and Other Stories. Those were heady months, and it’s always thrilling to be reminded.

Thanks as ever to Tim McQueen and the team at Vision Australia Radio for their invaluable support and encouragement.

Happy listening!

  3. Really enjoyed, great characters — always a love/hate with the Americans — maybe this story is love/hate/love?

    1. Thanks, Deb. Lovely to hear from you. Maybe life itself can sometimes be love/hate/love! Mostly love, though. One would hope.

One of my all time favourite stories of yours Barry – and I loved the ‘story behind the story’ too!
