Fundación César Egido Serrano | VI International Flash Fiction Competition

“”The César Egido Serrano Foundation was created to propose that the word be the tool of coexistence between cultures and religions and against all violence.”

With a first prize of 20,000 dollars up for grabs, the César Egido Serrano Foundation has launched the VI Edition of their International Flash Fiction Competition, under the slogan ”Faced with COVID; Solidarity and Resilience”.

The competition is open to writers from anywhere in the world over the age of 14 years. Two entries are allowed per author, maximum 100 words per entry (not including an optional title) in either Spanish, English, Arabic or Hebrew. Closing date 30 September 2021. More details, including information on previous editions of the competition, can be found here. Contest rules here. Find a participation form here. The language of the page can be changed to Spanish, Arabic or Hebrew from the list at the top-right.

I was a finalist and diploma award-winner in the IV Edition of the competition in 2015 with my story ‘Mars’. In that year 13 finalists were chosen out of 35,609 stories from 149 countries. The volume of entries can be daunting, but if you’ve a story to tell it’s well worth having a go. There’s no fee, so nothing to lose. The only way to be in with a chance of winning is to take part.

This year sees a twist on the judging process, with the participants themselves having the opportunity and responsibility of choosing the winners through a computerised, random and anonymous voting system.

So send off your short tale. And good luck!

Barry asked if we’d share news of this international flash fiction competition from the César Egido Serrano Foundation. There’s a hefty pot of prize money available for the winning story in 100 words or less. The competition closes at the end of September, so there’s plenty of time to get cracking.
